Patterns + Patterns

Layering patterns on patterns is oh so hot! There are no true rules on what patterns actually belong together, but let’s avoid clashing because that is oh so NOT hot. The trick is to make sure the colors of each pattern complement each other. For example, in this three-toned styled look, I am wearing two different patterns that are in the black, white and grey family. I also consistently styled the patterns with a black leather pant, booties, gloves, bag and shades, allowing the patterns to be the main focal point. If you choose a pattern that is bolder, make sure to layer it with a smaller print, or vise versa. You want to make sure the patterns don’t compete with each other, but enhance each other instead. If you want to use two stripe patterns, make sure the stripes are not pointing in the same direction. You also want to make sure one stripe is thicker and or richer in color than the other stripe. When mixing patterns, you only want one bold pattern per look. Now that you have the tools to wear it, don’t let fear hinder you, be bold and strut your pattern-stuff!
